Calling East Harlem Home …

East Harlem extends from about East 96th Street to East 125th Street, and is bound by the Upper East Side, East River, Harlem, and Central Park.

Throughout the 20th Century, East Harlem has served as the home and key inspiration to generations of novelists, poets, musicians, and actors.

Such famous creative figures who hail from East Harlem have included James De La Vega, whose murals and street drawings decorate the neighborhood, and Piri Thomas, whose autobiography “Down These Mean Streets” became a bestseller in 1967, among others.

The area is also home to one of the only major televisions studios north of midtown, Metropolis (106th Street and Park Avenue), where shows like BET's “106th and Park” and “The Chappelle Show” have been produced.

Equally impressive is the number of home seekers and new businesses that have recognized opportunity in East Harlem, as have investors and developers of new cooperative, condominium and rental housing projects.

Topping the area’s attractiveness is the abundance of ethnic restaurants and retail shops that have sprung up, the nearby parks and recreation outlets, and the various transportation options for residents.
